The seminar was initiated by the BDPEMS board as a traditional lunch seminar and is organized by the students themselves. It is integrated into the schedule of the "Brown Bag Seminar Macroeconomics" and takes place every other Wednesday from 12:30 to 2 p.m.

Description:
The main activity, which started in April 2004, is a weekly research seminar open to young labour market researchers (PhD students and post-docs) affiliated with any of the institutions mentioned below. The research projects presented can be of either empirical or theoretical nature. Presentations are usually given in English - German presentations are also possible. 
 
Current Research projects by members of the network are, for example:
  • the empirical evaluation of government policies in the labour market and in the educational industry,
  • the analysis of new institutional arrangements such as temporary help agencies,
  • work incentives of tax and family policy reforms,
  • the analysis of transitions from welfare to work,
  • transitions between different types of labour market states, and from welfare to work,
  • social security coverage of non-standard employment relationships,
  • changing demand for qualification in the labour market,
  • the theoretical analysis of search and matching processes,
  • individual employment trajectories in the household context,
  • the role of temporary employment in women’s working lives. 
  • intergenerational mobility.

The Economic Risk Seminar is one of three regular research seminars hosted by the Sonderforschungsbereich 649. The Sonderforschungsbereich 649 facilitates an exchange between national and international scientists. The Economic Risk Seminar covers a wide spectrum of topics with some focus on the quantitative analysis of financial markets. During the semester the seminar takes place on a regular basis on Mondays between 2 and 4 pm in room 22 at the School of Business and Economics of the Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin at Spandauer Straße 1, the talks will be given in English or German.

The Schumpeter Institute was founded in 2001, and is so far an informal collaboration of the Humboldt University faculty (Profs. Burda, Lütkepohl, Ritschl, Uhlig) doing theoretical and empirical research on macroeconomic issues. It is the mission of the Schumpeter Institute to become a leading university research institute in the area of macroeconomics and related fields.

The method is internationally oriented research and mission-oriented communication and interaction in science, the business world and the public. A generous grant by the Deutsche Bank and visitor funds from the Sonderforschungsbereich 373 have enabled the Schumpeter Institute to invite prominent international scientists for visits and lectures to Berlin.
